Ulaanbaatar travel photos

Ulaanbaatar or Ulan Bator is a capital of Mongolia and the world's coldest capital. Gandantegchinlen Khiid Buddhist monastery is the largest monastery in Mongolia built in 1810. It contains one of the biggest standing Buddhas in Asia (26m). Sukhbataar Square with a Parliament building and a big statue of Genghis Khan is in the center of Ulaanbaatar. After the Soviet Union felt apart in the 1990s, many Mongolians returned to the countryside and the nomadic life depending on domestic animals, as they did allready many centuries. In Ulaanbaatar you can find large living aeras of hundreds of gers.
